I would like to run these(8.5"x15") on my Brandshatch Green 71 but can't find much info on fit and clearance. All the dealer web sites lean towards 16" and 17". Any information/advice would be greatly appreciated!
I threw a set that i had in the shop(Torque thrust D ,same size ,15x8.5) on the back of a 68 and the spokes hit the calipers. Couldnt use them without spacers.
I am running Appliance Wheels on mine. I did not think the 3.25 back spacing of the older wheels in 8.5 width would clear. So I have 7 inchers on mine.
In the pic below you can see that the Appliance wheels clearance the back plate to clear the calipers. No Spacers
Appliance wheels on the left and D's on the right.
Hope this helps.

I have some Torq Thrust Ds as well and they don't clear the brake caliper, like RRV said. I ended up getting these Halibrand 15x8s and they do clear the calipers.
Weird - I have TTDs on my '76 and they clear the calipers, just. I bought them used and I think they backspacing is slightly deeper than OEM wheels, because the tyres are wider in the arches than the old wheels were.
The newer D's wil not clear the caliper's. It doesn't have anything to do with backspacing, but the shape of the spokes. You could grind in the clearance needed. I wanted the D's but ended up getting a lookalike from P.S. Engineering. Not cheap but a great wheel and they clear the calipers. I got 8.5 in 15's with 4.25 backspace.
There are actually two different wheels. One for drum brakes without a cutout for a caliper and those with a cutout for calipers. The older wheels may not fit caliper setups because of this fearure. Either its there or isn`t.
spacers are the alternative for drum wheels on caliper cars
