Default fuel pressure

Does anyone know what the fuel pressure is for a stock pump on an L-48? I bought a new 750 cfm carb and dont want the bowls to go dry when I hit the gas.

Stock fuel pressure is around 4-5 psi, but that's a meaningless number. It's FLOW you want. Stock pump are good for about 600HP.

Aside from that your stock carb was 750 CFM also.

OK
I was under the impression that it was a 650. I was told that the new carb would require 7 lbs pressure. Perhaps they were just trying to sell me a new pump as well

Thanks

5.5 to 6.5 is the typical fuel pressure range for a street car. a street fuel pump is internally regulated to about 6.5 psi and is all you need for a typcal street motor. if you get into high performance pumps you will need some type of pressure regulator between the pump and the carb so you can set the pressure but you will need a fuel pressure guage on the carb inlet after the regulator, there should be a filter in the line from the regulator to the carb too. if you go above 7 psi the fuel will push the needle right off the seat and you will flood the motor. 6.5 psi should be all you need unless you're feeding a major league motor. edelbrock makes a nice 6.5 psi pump that should feed that L-48 just fine, unless you're making over 600 horses with it..........
