Undercarriage detailing
I'm going to attempt cleaning the undercarriage of my '71. I'm going to get simple green degreaser and also going to paint the frame with rustoleum satin black. My question is about prepping the frame. The frame does not have any rust damage, however it does look like a typical dirty 37 year old frame that hasn't been cleaned up at all over the years. There is no loose rust or scaling, but with the original black chassis paint gone you can see it is an orange-ish color from a thin layer of rust that coats the frame (see picture below).
I have decided against POR-15 and want to get the frame down to bare metal before painting. Should I get some coarse sandpaper and use a sander to prep the frame (which I think may be a PITA to get the whole frame down to clean bare metal this way), should I apply some rust stripper like this stuff ....
http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=44 , or a combination of the two? I have some navel jelly but that didn't seem to do much. Not sure if this other product is any better....anyone try it before?
Here is a picture of what the frame looks like to give you an idea of what I'm starting with.
Thank you,
Paul
