Your OEM starter is a Delco brand. Anything else would be the Minis. The old style or original Delco could be a heavy duty or a light duty. Thats determined where the switch connection is located behind the switch near the back of the case. If it`s 3/4 of an inch behind the switch, it`s a HD, The best of the originals. GM has introduced a smaller permanent magnet starter for late model SB`s and BB`s . Much lighter in weight and smaller. This is a Metric starter and requires new mounting bolts in the older applications and is the best of the lot.

I've got a mini hi torqure starter on my 454. It bolted right on and seems to work fine.
With the small size I get lots of clearance with the headers and should not have the overheating problems you offen get with the Delcos.
My original would soak up the heat and not work. I got a Powermaster from Summit. It has never have a heat problem When it was a few years old the solenoid died. Powermaster replaced it as no charge.
