I am the origianl owner of 1973 Red vette convertible with 46,000 miles. Where would I begin to look for the build papers. Someone said they might be glued to the gas tank. Would they be on top where you can't see them or on the side? Would they still be there after 46,000 miles or would they blow off. I have driven it in the rain a few times but never in snow or winter time. Any help from anyone? Also the rubber seal around he carb filter ring is sort of smashed out of shape. I have noticed this on other corvettes that are for sale and show pix of the engine. Any way to straighten this short of getting new rubber and glueing it on or how ever it is secured? Thanks,Bob

I found mine glued to the top of my gas tank. It is old and decrepid, but it was there. Others have also found them under the dash around the tach area. I also heard of one guy who found it under the passenger seat....happy hunting!
The build sheet was attached to the top of the fuel tank. Some have also been found behind the carpet which runs up back of the seat. Some have also been found stuck up on top between the speedo and tach. My sheet was still on top of the tank when I got my '77 back in '00. I was able to reach up between the shield and tank from the driver's side and retrieve it. It was still bonded pretty hard to the tank and I lost a bit of it during the retrieval. In hindsight, I wish I had left it alone. Here is a picture of it.
Mine found me a couple of weeks ago when I put new shocks on it. It came tumblin down from the drivers tanks side. It was pitiful looking. Is there some place I can get a blank copy of the build sheet? I would like to transpose what information I have on to it. The I would like to laminate both for show an preservation purposes.
Binnie did you vette come with those tops in it? By any chance is your car a primer only car that was painted at apon arrival at the dealership? It will say so on the build sheet.
Hey guys do you know about the service you can get from Allied Vaughn.
I received my vehicle invoice in the mail about two weeks ago.
I would post a pic but I'm unable to see how that is done.

The car is paint code 56 Bright Yellow. I bought the roofs on ebay about 5 years ago.
If you open the gas cap lid and push the rubber seal ring to the side you can see the top of the gas tank and the build sheet if it is still there. The build sheet is usually found on the drivers side and towards the rear. If you have a mirror you can also crawl under the rear of the car and look on top of the tank thou the mirror. The paper was/is glued to the tank. Removal is best done by removing the tank first.
Sime folks have found the build sheet behind the instrument panel between the speedometer and tachometer.
If you do get it I would like a picture to add the data to the 1973 Corvette Registry/database I am building.
I found mine on my '73. It had 99,000 miles on it and was a daily driver for many years. It was stuck to the top of the tank and was in pretty good shape.
I'm curious if the 813 coincides with the VIN. I take it it's a 73
do you mean 814?
418814, built March 73. The only grease pencil markings I found on the car were 328 on the pass floor. Usually they will scribble the body number somewhere.
I have a '79, think i'm the 3rd owner and just found mine glued to the top of the gas tank. I had been taking off the spare tire carrier, looked up towards the top of the tank and saw a piece of paper sticking out. Dropped the tank and there it was. It is barely readable but I'm glad I found it.
