I have my 69 body on the dolly now and the next weekend that involves decent weather, I plan to roll it outside and clean the 39 years of sh*t off of the underbody, wheelwells, and engine compartment. I have been told that vettes came from the factory with natural fiberglass and I will likely leave it that way. Does anyone put a coat of clearcoat over the raw fiberglass?
Also, there are quite a few metal brackets and/or plates underneath as well as the metal channel that covers the frame. Did these come from the factory painted black? These look like good candidates for POR-15 coating. This forum is great - thanks for all of your continuing support I owe you some pics as the rolling chassis is just about finished. Started in 10/07.
You should certainly coat any metal parts on the underside of the body with rustproofing coating. Many folks use POR-15. I have used RustBullet on a couple of frames and other pieces and I like it. It's less fussy prep-wise than POR and provides a very hard surface. Cost-wise it's about the same.
