What are the steps for removing the interior door panels on a 74 Vette? I need to replace the handle and the anti-rattle brushes and I am not sure how to proceed. Your help would be appreciated as well as any other advice. Thanks
First thing you want to due is remove the window crank if it's not power windows. If you have a crank it's best to get the tool specific for this. The same tool can be used to remove the inside door lock ***** as well. There should be several small screws holding the clips on the outer edge of the panel that are attaching the door panel to the door structure. I believe there is also a screw in the up corner that is through the panel as well. This is in the upper left hand corner on the drivers side and the opposite on the passenger. You'll need to remove both screws for the door handle strap as well. Once all this is removed the panel should remove fairly easy.
If you have window cranks the clip is a U shape or C shape clip that needs to be pulled/pushed off of the spine for the window crank and the door lock. The clip is held in place on the door lock and crank by 2 slots 180 opposite each other. The end of the clip sticks out and that is what can be grapped and pulled out of the slots.
Go to corvette magazine.com. They just happen to have an article on C3's regarding door panel/motor/glass replacement, with pictures. If you are going this far you might as well check the bushings/guides on the glass track. It's just time and a few dollars but worth a lot of aggravation later on. Stuck window or possibly broken glass. Remember an ounce of prevention? Read the article.
