Do you have stock map lights?
Do they come on when you open the door?
When I put in my aftermarket rear view mirror, I got one with map lights, compass, and auto dimming.
I'm happy with it and everything works fine but I never did run the separate power line to the courtesy light circuit so they would come on when the door opens. Mostly because the map lights come on with +12VDC but the courtesy light circuit is always hot with an open ground.
I was going to wire it differently with a separate timer;
It's trashing the ascii diagram so forget that.
Got a couple diagrams to combine the power to the map lights, courtesy light grounding, and a timer all in one circuit. Would let me open the door, have the map lights come on and continue the grounding to keep on the map lights and courtesy lights for a variable time after the door is closed.
Then I started looking at a standard '75 map light wiring harness.
Does that wire the stock map lights into the courtesy circuit so they come on when the doors are opened, and is it another always hot wire like the courtesy lights?
Paragon has it, but not cheap.

Wow, I found one that looks good in my interior and fits the stock metal bracket glued to the windshield for $10 at a swap meet. Came from some later-model GM car.
Don't know if that one has the map lights or not tho.
If I hadn't gotten interested in the compass, I would have probably gotten a mirror like the one in my trans am. They are nice and sell for pretty cheap.
Called the manufacturer and got a pinout of the connection. Also went to the lincoln place and got a photo copy of 2 pages of their shop manual. I ran the wiring behind the molding. I'm very happy with it.
If you don't mind pulling the old mount and exopying a windshield mount you can get most any mirror. With some searching around you might be able to find one that fits the stock mount.
