Default T-top Molding kit

Anyone ever use these? http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette?frame=4.3925

They look like a nicer/easier to install and cleaner look as an alternative to the original trim.

I was having a hell of a time finding stock replacement trim, and heard that it is a bitch to install. I'm having the T's painted presently and figured this might be a better way to go.

Anyone out there use this? Opinions? Thank youl

I was thinking of doing the same ones. Curious if anyone else used these as well. The only thing I see that might look a little off is that they look kind of dull as compared to the stock ones

FYI, BEWARE.. These are not for the Fiberglass Tops like their catalog and web site says. They are for glass t-tops only.

I have to return mine... ARGH..

Does anyone know where to find the right trim/molding for the fiberglass tops?

What will you take for the ones you got? Are they charging a restock fee?

I had to re-do mine and I purchased used T-tops off E-bay, took the molding off and re-used on mine. For the $35.00 for 1 top, it was worth it!

Only one problem. That says 1968 to 1976
I have a 1979

I thought about that, but the reason I took them off in the first place is they looked like ****.. Why would I want to put a used piece on something I spent a fortune on refinishing? Also, as I recall, they pretty much get destroyed pulling them off... It was no easy task removing them. They were trashed when I finished getting them off.

No idea on the restocking fee... I paid $49.95 for them and would part with them for exactly $50 and I would front the shipping.. I assume that would save you some bucks. Comes with the adhesive too.

Let me know.

Shouldn't matter, the only real difference is the finish...the older ones were polished stainless steel and the later ones were painted trim black

I bought some stainless front pieces from an older corvette and it fit my 78-82 fiberglass tops just fine....I painted them black to match the rest of the car.

Cool, thank you! Ok, if that is the only difference, ie the finish, I guess I will go the Ecklers route.. Friggin expensive.. I should have just bought some new glass T's at this rate.

I figure I am about $250 on the paint, 12 hours sweat equity, $80 on the Weather Strip, $40 on the rebuild kit, and $72 on the pads if Wilcox ever gets them back in stock..

$442 + the trim, around $250 or close to $700... EEK..... I think I still may buy a Targa. I saw glass one pieces new for under $400 online.

Trying to order today, Ecklers seems to be having some trouble with their ordering system..

Just out of curiosity, was it hard to install the trim? My main concern is scratching the new paint job on the t-tops... How hard were they to install and did you have to use adhesive?

Thanks!

It's not hard but you'll most likely scratch the paint sliding them on...try not to force them.

I used some of that windshield caulk (dum dum) to hold mine around the front.

But honestly on that it would have been better to install the trim prior to paint and then tape it off when you painted the tops.

In the AIM for my 70, it's called the drip moulding assembly and is installed using a sealing compound, 1/4" bead. It's visible at the ends on my t-tops and is black. It may be similar to yours. Look in your AIM if you have it, and get one if you don't.
Good luck, Glenn

Thanks guys.. Yeah, had I known first, I guess I would have left them on prior to paint. The paint guys suggested removing them, and to be honest, they looked like crap, so anything is going to be an improvement!

It's a learning experience!

Well my T-Top Trim arrived today from Ecklers. It is the stainless trim for the 68-76. Again, I have a 79', so gonna be fun seeing if it works.

One piece was on back order apparently.. Oh well..

So again, to bond the outer trim that is not screwed on, I should use a silicone adhesive? Anyone have any suggestions on what to use? Something simple and not too messy?

Thanks!!!

FYI to anyone else making this futile attempt at restoring T-Tops on a 7-82, the 68-76 DO NOT fit the 79!

While the outer trim might, the side trim that goes along the outer under sides does NOT. It's not even close.

I'm going to have to jury rig something or custom fab the piece at this point.
