I'm looking for the best book/manual out there that will give me a complete breakdown of my vette and it's parts. I'm looking for the best source that will show me assembly/disassembly of the various parts. I've found what I think are the best two, but I'm not sure which one is better. Input greatly appreciated, as usual
As xcceter says get them all. I also found that some of the catalogues like Zip Products as some pictures of breakdowns, however most of these can be found in either the AIM or the Repair manuals. One of the best manuals I got was the Corvette 1953 - 1971 Parts and Accessories manual. I don't think that these are generally available. You may want to try the Chevrolet Central Office - Parts and Accessories Merchandising Department if they are still around.
Both are good, but I suppose it depends a lot on mechanical apptitude and experience. I started out with the A.I.M. and the Chassis Service Manual specific for '71 but I'm still collecting stuff. Haynes is okay I guess for a backup reference, not too keen on Chilton's, and Chevrolet sent me a specs manual that's decent. Also available is a 53-82 Corvette Parts catalog that has a few diagrams, and it's free. NCRS has a good bookstore as well.
If you don't need to do a lot of work (my case) right now, then looking around and learning is part of the fun. Loads of great advice here on the forum, too!
this is a link to the GM parts and illustration catalog for the vettes. It has every part number you will ever need and a lot of good info. Biggest plus is its free! You can read it while your waiting on the shop manuals to come in.

I have a 79 AIM that I have been meaning to post in the for sale section. Sold the 79 before I got to the assembly stage. If you haven't ordered one yet send me a PM and we can work something out.
Any generic "all years" shop manual is going to be over-generic crap. Get the original '79 GM manual. Available at a fairly hefty cost from Helm, Inc. or for a much more reasonable price used on eBay.
