I wish I could find something that looked exactly like the Rally wheels but in a 16x8 or 17x8 size. Would allow for a much better racing tire selection while still retaining the correct look.

Have a look at Wheel Vintiques' aluminum rally wheels. I have a set of 17 inch wheels. They look pretty much like the stock rally wheels when you look at them from, say, 20 feet away.
There's a much larger selection of performance tires in 17 inch sizes than in the 16 inch size.
They have replica rally wheels in all sizes. With 16s you would run 255/50R16s same as a C4. Will be the same width as 255/60R15s that were the stock upgrade from the 225/70R15s and pretty close to the same diameter overall.

I agree that's why I only went to 16" and a 60 series at that.
I spent alot of time looking at pictures on this forum and decided I just like the old school look.
I also think extremely low profile tires are overkill for a 1950's era suspension design - just my opinion though because my suspension is basically stock.
