'70 LT-1 Car and Driver Test Results
Does anyone know the exact results of the Car Life and Auto Tech (I think that was the name back then) article from 1970 for the LT-1? I believe the times were under 6 secs for the 0-60mph and around 14 sec for the 1/4.....both traction limited.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Car and Driver didn't test the '70 Corvettes.
For '71 (low compression) 0-60 was 6.0 sec with the 1/4 in 14.57@100.55 mph. I am taking these numbers from a CD reprint book of 68-77 road tests.
I recall Hot Rod getting much better times from a '71 or '72 LT-1 with a 1/4 mile time of 13.85 @105 (certain about the time, less so the speed) - it was a 4.11 4 speed car.
While there were traction issues, I don't think 0-60 or the 1/4 was traction limited with any factory small block. 0-60 was traction limited on hot (425-430-436 HP rated) big blocks.

I may still have the mag, but the 70 was in the low 12's with a rear tire swap and tweeking the carb/timing. Think they talked about breaking the 11's( if memory serves me)

I remember vette mag doing a comparison between the 70 LT 1 and the (at the time), new lt1. Guess it was early 90's.

Thank you.
I recall the article mentioning the F70 tire being on the thin side given the size of the wheel wells and that a wider factory tire would have easily lowered those times-- and they were wondering why GM didn't use a wider tire.

Sorry guys I hate to rain on your parade here. The chances on a SMB doing under 14's would be a miracle. At the time I ran a 70 340 six/pak and the best time I could do was 13.91 I remember a 70-W30 blew me away with a 12.00 flat, Now that was a monster as a mater of fact the W30 pretty much was a monster and it could blow away most BB Vettes at the time. It's nice to dream. later

Traction was still a problem with the 60 series.
The times quoted in the magazines were with stock tires
and traction issues were a real problem.
The stock F70 tires were almost useless off the line.
If you took those same cars today and put some good sticky tires
on them, then the times would be more representative of their performance.
Thanks
