I just found this out and Its no joke, people in here have helped me out so Iam trying to help out in return dont know if you know this but You can get a "restoration package" at no cost from GM/Chevrolet. Sinply call the Chevy/Geo customer assistance hotline at (800) 222-1020 or 810-696-4800. Have your VIN handy, as they'll ask for it. The contents of this package varies by year. Call now before they start charging!
If your car was originally registered in Canada. you will have to call GM of Canada at (800) 263-3777. GM Canda wants $40.00 plus tax for the restoration package, so try the US number first!
This is a great package, with every specification on the corvette included, I was amazed at the level of detail, a MUST have.
BTW I just called and it still offered as a free service. Hope this helps many of you out. John
I missed this last time around and just called. Thanks for posting.
The GM rep I talked to (Dave) was really nice and said I should have it in 1-3 weeks. He said he hopes the car treats me well when I get it finished. What an awesome freebie!!!
I received mine several weeks ago. It contains 2 booklets, one entitled Corvette Specifications for your year car which has all kinds of info, a lot of which appears to be copies from Chevy Service manuals and really too much to go into here. The other, entitled Hobby and Sales Group, Past Model Information to assist owners in obtaining info, parts and accessories which are no longer available through Chevy. It is certainly worth the phone call and much more.
Wasn't sure if the receiving end was still working now since dunno what TZ call answered at. [Global environment and all.] Automated menu easy to nav, keywords were "products" and "restoration kit (or pkg)". Spoke to a lovely rep named Abbey; she took VIN, home address and ph #. Will send out next business day. Thinking tomorrow.
Interested to see the material they send. The price was definitely right:
Free.

WOW - my stuff came FedEx yesterday from Michigan - 3 days from when I called them and I'm in AZ!!! I can hardly believe how quickly this arrived and what a great document it is - lot's of good stuff in there.
My wife was even impressed. She said "I didn't know there was anything good for free out there anymore"

I'm with chevy69: impressed. Ordered same day and recvd 2-01 via FedEx. What a delightful surprise! LOL.
I had some of this data from various sources and I like how Chevrolet condensed all the specific data for the car. I immediately enjoyed a benefit by decoding the engine/trans build dates (#'s match to VIN):
motor assembled Sep.21, 1971: trans Sep. 28, 1971.
I knew car VIN build date decoded to Sep. '71 but nothing drilled down as tight showing that St. Louis sent it out the door in 2nd half of that month. (Still need to see if tank sticker avail? Haven't looked.)
You don't get much for $40........date of your car's production and shipping, options, original selling dealership, plus the complete AMA specs that GM had to provide for the car.....I would still say it's worth it though.
