Default C3 Newby Questions

After 3 years on the forum, its my 4th time being a NOOB.
1st was to the C5 section and the Forum in general.
2nd was to the C5 FI/Nitrous Section
3rd (and most painful ) Was to the OT section

Now I am in the Process of purchasing a C3 and I have a bumch of questions

I did search for all of these but I haven't found squat

The car I'm looking at is a 74, can the 70-73 rear bumper be installed without replacing the entire rear clip?

Has anyone removed the chrome bumpers from the 70-73 rear ends for a cleaner look?

On the 74 front clip, can the little bumper things on either side of the lisence plate be removed or shortened, I don't like how it protrudes

Has anyone done a coupe to Convertible conversion? I have found the fiberglass pieces, but haven't looked too far into it.

Anyone know exactly how much power the 74 L-48 made?

I'm not afraid of custom fiberglass work or doing a complete frame off, which is what I'm looking at doing.

I've been following a few of the restoration posts in here the last few days, I'm really excited for this project, but with my schedule it will be over years, my C5 took 3 years to get it where I wanted

The car I'm considering purchasing belongs to forum member Air. I'm researching shipping options now, and hope to seal the deal soon.

Thanks for the help in advance! and please be kind to my noob-ness, I'm probably asking questions that have been asked 15,000 times before, but searching with the wrong words

link to where they can be purchased?

I wouldn't mind modifying and re-glassing the one on the car, i was wondering if anything is behind it, a bumper support, frame something like that?

Hmm I have a 74 and I do not have the bumper things your are talking about. I believe those are on a 75.
Also those front and rear stock bumpers are not fiberglass they are urathane.

I know... I want to put a 68-73 style bumper on the 74 that I'm looking at getting, Is this possible without replacing the entire rear clip?

'74 L48 should be 195hp.

Here's a link that may be helpful. Just change the 2 digit # after vet in the address bar to see other years in the 70s.

To see other decades and years, (like 1980s) change the 1970 to 1980 and then the 2 digit # to the year (88).

What are the reasons you're not considering a '70-72?

Has anyone removed the chrome bumpers from the 70-73 rear ends for a cleaner look? A couple people here have, hopefully they'll chime in. IMO it looks a little strange because you so rarely see a chrome bumper car minus the chrome bumpers.

Has anyone done a coupe to Convertible conversion? I have found the fiberglass pieces, but haven't looked too far into it. Yes, maybe they'll chime in as well. You have to replace the entire rear deck, but if you want the 68-73 rear end, you could just kill two birds with one stone.

Anyone know exactly how much power the 74 L-48 made? Not much
.
These aren't exactly complicated cars and I've had a great time tinkering with mine since I bought it. In fact, I specifically chose my '80 because it was affordable and I wanted something I could work on that didn't have a computer.

Good luck to you!

What are the reasons you're not considering a '70-72?
I found a particular car, I wasn't looking, I just saw a forum member in OT saying he was thinking about selling. I recently made the decision to build a hot rod instead of buying a motorcycle because a friend of a friend was killed one one So I figure if I buy my project now, a few months early, when May comes around I wont have the $$ to change my mind and buy a bike

If I do have to replace the whole rear clip, I might aw well go Vert

Thats going to make the decision tougher

Thanks for the answers guys, keep the info coming, I'm still reading through as many restorations as i can find, Big and small
