Default What backspacing for 17"wheels

I am looking to step up to 17's in the near future. My question is what back spacing should I look for to get a 17X9 or 9.5 wheel under the car. I already have the 3" adapters from vette brake and products that I use for my 16X9's. I am looking at either a ZR-1 or Z06 style wheel. I tried my dad's stock front wheel from his 90 ZR-1, but it was too close to the tie rod ends to work. Any ideas?

on my 72 i used 2.5" adapters on and they are perfect for the front 17" stock C5 thinspoke and the rear only had to have the parking bracket cutoff and relocated to the top of the trailing arm. 18" in the back stock C5 wheels and tires...I would think that the 3" adapters would be more than enough...as I only am using 2.5" ones on mine.

hth,

Default These specs work on a stock 1981...

Wheels: 17" x 8" with 4" backspacing in the front, and 17" x 9.5" with 4.75" backspacing in back.

Tire suggestions: 255-45-17 in front, 285-40-17 in back.
