Default 1976 Steering Wheel???

Hey folks
Have a look at this picture. It is supposed to be from a 1976 corvette brochure. The wheel looks nothing like mine...but I wouldnt mind if mine looked like it.
Is that an option that was available or is the brochure not for the 76.

http://i6.ebayimg.com/08/i/000/d6/8b/f802_1.JPG
Is it possible its a 77 and the brochure was printed in 76?

That is NOT a 1976 brochure.

Look at the power window buttons. They are down in the console where as the 1976 had them on the emergency brake cover.

Also notice the heat / air controls. All 1976 models had teh thumb wheel controls running up and down, (like the 68 thru 75 prior models). The brochure shows the later slide controls shared by all other GM models, which started in 1977.

That is from a 1977 year model.

The ONLY steering wheel for 1976 is the so-called Vega wheel. (Which is in-correct. It is the SAME wheel that Chevrolet used on ALL their sporty models, Camaro, Z-28, Malibu SS, and Blazer with the sport package. It was also used on the some of the Vega models. The Vette didn't have a "Vega Wheel", the Vega had the GM "76 Sport Wheel".

Also, there was ONLY one brochure for the 1976 model Corvette, and that is not it. Here is a link to the only 76 brochure;

Here is a link to the 1977 brochure that you have asked about;

Hey there!
That bit about the vega wheel has always bothered me. Thanks for setting that straight. Now I might have more luck getting parts to fix my horn.
As for the brochure, I knew something was up. Thanks to your post I was able to purchase the correct one.

Thanks again
Bill

I get bashed every time I say this,...but I actually like the 76 steering wheel. I like the feel and look of the wheel.

I have owned several C3 Corvettes over the years, from 1968 thru 1982 models. While I like something about them all,..the 1976 is my favorite. (It was also the year model of my 1st Vette). .

I liked mine when it was new because it was one inch smaller in diameter than my buddy's '75...

But when I saw that beautiful leather wheel that came out in '77 I was pissed...

Its like looking in a mirror!
Mine is the car I would have sold my soul for the year I got my drivers licence. Alas had to settle for Mom's Comet. Thirty years later I went back to my hometown and bought the car of my dreams. Funny actually, I found the car, did the deal and then called my wife at work and told her I would pick her up - we were going to the airport. We flew 1000 kms to Hamilton, Ontario and picked up the car - drove home in it.
God Bless her and strike me down if I ever say a cross word about her... all my wife said was "where we goin?" No spoiler in my vette!

Me too. But I only had to wait two years. I bought mine new when I was 18. I had 3k saved up by then & my old man got me a loan for the rest. Thank God he trusted me enough to make those payments for the next four years. She has 71k on her now. The last time it was on a wet road was back in '85. Never wrecked & all original paint.....
