Default air filter assembly

Well today I did some learning. I replaced my points type accell distributor with an accel hei distributor. I started it up and nothing blew up. Now I have a problem. Before I had a 14" drop base air filter assembly on the car the distributor was so big it wouldn't fit. I bought a 9" air filter assembly that did not have a drop base and it's too tall. I'm not sure how much because I don't want to crack the hood. Any ideas or suggestions on what to do next? Any help is appreciated

Maybe try a '76 base? It has an indentation at the back that allows room for the HEI...

WOuldn't by any chance have a picture would you? Can't seem to find one on ecklers or the other suppliers. I have an edelbrock intake and holly 4 barrel. I looked at the offset drop bases (14) but they said they will not fit a 4 barrel.

On my 79 L82 I'm running a Holley, EPS intake and HEI with a 3"x14" cleaner. Had to go with a dropbase, OFFSET clearner base. The offset part is that the carb opening in the base is moved off-center which allows the base to be positioned farther foward and away from the HEI. This can be found at Summit or Jegs.

Thanks for the help guys. You don't by chance have a part number on the drop offset air filter base? I found several on both sites and they all say they don't fit holley 4 barrels. I did find one that doesn't say what it fits at all. Thanks Ryan

I am using a Moroso Low-Profile Racing Aircleaner. 14"x3" and it just touchs the HEI. I have a Q-Jet on an Edelbrock RPM manifold.

A lower intake might cause the clearance to be tighter.

Unfortunately, a dropped offset base will not work with a Holley or Demon due to the fuel bowls. Moroso has an offset base but it only works with Holley 2bbls due to the fuel bow issue.
