I've seen a number of independent tests that show an "X" or "H" pipe will give some increase in power and better idle quality. The "X" has also been shown to be better than a "H".

Also, because the difference is measurable, it doesn't necessarily mean you can feel the difference. It may well be a car by car thing and how the car is driven whether the increase is truly noticeable.

All that being said, I see no reason not to install one.

They will smooth out the left and right engine exhaust pulses for a little better flow, and they will also simlarly, but slightly change the sound of your exhaust.

X pipes flow better as the exhaust flow is less disturbed (no 90 degree turn) but the X also takes up more room as generally costs more . So an H helps as well, and is much easier to install and is cheaper, which is why the C5 and C6 come stock with an H pipe that most of us replaced with an X

When I changed over my 79 from MAD's dual chambered to Hedman Elite headers, custom duals and Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, I had a Summit X installed at the same time. Now I can hear myself think while crusing

Thanks
I just bought headers, X by itself and mufflers individually and had a local muffler shop fab all of the pipes. I have no pics to share but I've seen several pics of others' on the Forum that you should be able to find. Essentially pipes are run straight from the headers to just past the tranny x-member, then to the x-pipe, then straight under the rear end to the mufflers.

Been many debates over this...but...here goes.

H--will help equalize, create "muscle sound", is cheaper, does little for power...if any.

X--will help equalize, create "muscle sound", more $$....but...the trade off vs. H or none is that it creates a more scavenging effect for removing all hot gases left in the combustion chamber before, during and after exhaust stroke, thus fore making room for more fresh fuel and air to come in during the intake stroke that is immediately following.
Kinda like siphoning gas from a tank, momentum takes over and removes mass,....in this case, the mass is hot gases that is made of CO2, which is also a flame snuffer, and the X pipe is the siphon.

An X pipe even helps worn, tired, or even just plain ole stock engines, not to mention what it can do for built engines.
Will you burn more rubber or get 10 extra MPG because if it?
No.
I doubt you would notice/feel any difference unless its a built motor...but your engine will notice the help.
And your engine does become more efficient.

Think of it like this.....on the intake stroke; do you want your cylinder completely empty before its filled again?....or do you want to try and fill it with CO2 still left in it? (which is totally non-combustible)

No, I dont sell X pipes.

Just my O2 (pun intended ),
Jim
