I'm assembling a parts list to get my car back in working order after I got hit, and I seem to have come across a problem. I can't find ANYONE that makes the correct taillights for my 81. Plenty of companys make the reverse light, but nobody has the outer lights.
Since my car really isn't stock anymore, I'm open to new ideas. I was on Eckler's website and ran across these LED taillights. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...3&dept_id=1384
Looks like a pretty straightforward setup. I really like the idea of the LED's. They look awesome on new cars, and I think that they'd kinda carry out the "subtle custom" look of my car.
I know there was a thread not long ago on LED taillights, but I don't think these were mentioned. Anyone have any experience with them?
The problem with them is the cost. Someone found the Harbor Freight units to be just as good with a much lower price. Obviously they don't have the 1157 socket end spliced on, and the mounting would be custom.
I don't know of anyone on the forum that has bought those yet, at least submitted pictures of them on the car. I bought the harbor freight led tails at about 10 bucks per.
dang! i was working on a kit for these on c3's myself. figures someone beat me to it. BTW, there has to be some resistor in the light for the flashers to work correctly. the LEDs don't draw enough power and will cause your flasher to blink like a little foreign job.
just dang.

Clutchdust can you help me out here, I have bought these LED lights (from Corvette Central) but unlike in the USA we cannot have the tail/brake light as an indicator so I have to use the reversing light as an indicator, if what you say is correct, it will not have a resistor fitted, so what kind of a resistor should I fit? Sorry I'm note really electricallly minded.

in my instance i just wired in the LEDs in parallel with the original lights to, at least temporarily, bypass the flasher issue.
greimeinvette, i'm sorry. i do not have an answer for you. i have eliminated my reversing light for now and will relocate it later.
the one thing i found with mine is that i didn't like the fit/wasn't able to get the rubber liner in mine. i cut plastic trim rings to go around mine and just siliconed them in place. it's not a finished fit but it works pretty well.
at least the ecklers parts look like they fit as a direct replacement for the originals.
i'll try and get pics of mine and post them soon.
o.k. here it is. this is not the finished product. i was just doing the two lights to start and see how it fit. the ones you get elsewhere are slightly smaller than the originals and you can see my make-shift bezels.

wow ..thats a big difference in price ....
Do you have a close up photo of the lights and were they hard to install ...
Question for you guys... I am installing Harbor Freights now. I connected one light and the flasher still works bigears. I was under the impression that I would have to buy a HD flasher for it to work??
here I am thinking.. oh no.. that poor kid.. got hit again!
then I realized the thread was 363 days old
must be cabin fever when we're digging that deep in the old threads
