Wow, thanks Stan, though I wasn't looking for that detail, its nice to know. I'm not doing what you'd call a "correct" resto, just cleaning up the engine bay for my new motor. Thought since it is all apart, I'd repaint those bits and pieces that were originally painted "back in the day"..
Hows the winter been back in PA? Moved from there 6 1/2 yrs ago, out to the Pacific NW. We lived just north of Philly in Bucks Co. near New Hope and Doylestown. I was stationed at, and retired from, Willow Grove NAS..
No problem... I figured that I'd give you the whole story on what the factory did and let you make your own decision based on that. I may be a certifiable nut when it comes to factory originality, but I don't expect everyone else to be. To each their own... Makes the hobby interesting for everyone!
The weather here in PA hasn't been so bad this year. About the worst we've had it was when I was down in Florida a few weeks ago, so I'm not complaining. I'm a bit west of where you lived... Near York, PA. I seem to remember a really nice air show held at Willow Grove every year. I'd really like to attend that show at some point.
Take care... Enjoy your new digs out in Washington!

Stan, Willow Grove always put on a nice show. I flew in it several times in fact. Unfortunately, I have heard that NAS Willow Grove finally made the Base Closure list, and is slated to (or already has) shut down. Too bad, as it was the largest RESERVE base in the country. Thousands of "citizen soldiers" descended on "the Grove" two weekends a month for alot of years. Matter of fact, when I was a little boy growing up on a farm in NC, my Dad was a Navy Reserve aviator. He would go off every summer to fulfill his 2 weeks of Active Duty, and always send me postcards of which exotic port he was in. One year (around the late 60's) I got a postcard from NAS Willow Grove, PA...where my Dad's squadron was doing their 2 weeks Active Duty...funny..30 years later I was a Naval Aviator stationed there for 4 years and retired from there!! Small world!
