The tops on your 76 have two levers to lock them down. The 79 tops have one lever that moves a pin on the end to lock the rear of the top down.
To make the 79 tops work you will need to remove the triangle bolt that goes into the roof halo so the pin can slide in.

Is removing this bolt a major production? Also can you please explain further as to what the roof halo is? My car is in storage and as such I cant check to see what you mean. Perhaps someone could post a pic of the t top mounts in a 76?
