Well, my Vette started acting up again on Saturday when I took it for a drive. I had determined the cc distributor was the problem. The cc quadra jet has been replaced by the po. I limped it home Saturday and pulled it straight into my shop. Out came the cc distributor and got replaced with a gutted vacuum advance HEI, external MSD Blaster 2 coil, and MSD 6AL box. Everything went together well. I cleaned up some other dead wiring and stuff, found a vacuum hose that was open ended, making a slight vacuum leak. Got it all back together and took it out for a spin. It runs like a new car! That is the most improvement I have ever experienced in a modification. I should have done it months ago. Still have to finish up. Loom some wires and stuff like that. Well worth the effort! I wish I could eliminate more of the useless wiring and all under the hood, but really don't want to cut it. Trying to keep it where someone could restore it to original if I ever sold it. Any thoughts?
You buy new reproduction engine wiring harnesses. They are exact duplicates of OE. To be honest, a car this old should someday have a new harness anyway. I'd say hack it up to your content.
Just to let you know, the MSD (multiple spark discharge). not only gives you mores hits per stroke, it's also a much hotter spark, a lot of guys open up their plug gaps to .050 or .060 for better flame propogation.
Great thread, I just ordered my Msd Hei. a few days ago and have my carb being rebuilt by Lars. I can't wait to see how she runs after all is back together.
