I plan on upgrading my distributor to an msd coil over one with some nice wires and denso plugs. i was wondering before i put in the order if i should order the advance recurve kit for it as well. i have an 80 with a mild cam and ive heard that with any sort of cam upgrade you would have to recurve the distributor
Save your money for something else. The stock HEI distributor is more than adequate for a performance motor. Shim any excessive play out of the shaft, make sure you have a performance vacuum advance can, and recurve it to a performance curve and you are good to go.
Buy GM distributor shim pack, HEI recurve kit and maybe a peel and stick timing tape for your balancer if you don't have a dial back timing light.
Those kits look like they will cover your need. Key is the adjustable vacuum can. In my case, I just installed a new Pertronix Flamethrower HEI distributer. It went right in and has all the features you need.
It looks like you think your distributor needs a lot of work. Those parts will pretty much cover it; if it is really bad, often the star shaped magnet piece is cracked. These guys are relatively close to you and can set up your distributor with a performance curve and all the parts you'll ever need for a distributor.
