Default engine cleaner

what is the best and safest way to clean your engine while it is still installed in the car? is there anything out there that is "spray-on/spray-off" that works like a champ? any magic potion? my engine in my "82" isn't that dirty but there is some buildup of grease/dirt, specially in the corners and hard to get places .

Purple Power baby! Spray on, rinse off. A monkey could do it...just ask Cheetah....or J. Fred Muggs....or Lancelot Link...or Bonzo...or Bubbles....OK enough.

Ive heard Purple Power is good stuff. Also Simple Green. Give it a good soaking before power washing at a self serve car wash. Thats what I used on this before the paint

If you want a full on detail job, nothing beats good ol elbow grease! Spray on some Mean Green and start scrubbing. Power washing it okay, but to get all the detail you'll need to get yourself dirty in the process.

everything sounds good, luckily my engine really isn't that dirty, don't mind getting dirty either.

for those hard to reach places.....

I taped a 1 inch paint brush to the end of a very long drill bit,
then sprayed some degreaser on the brush, and brushed/drilled it spotless.

Go to advance auto, or any other auto store and get a couple cans of the spray on engine degreaser, Ive used it many times and it works GREAT. Might have to do it a couple of times but it is worth it. Saves a lot of elbow grease and probably a better job........LT

Watch out on the Simple Green we have had it etch the Polished Aluminum on my son's Harley and then it was a real #!$$ PIA to get it polished out again. We dilute it now and try it in an out of the way place first. Lot's of elbow grease and maybe a little kerosine/mineral spirts to first get rid of the really oil sludge and grime. Steam cleaner works nice too.
Good luck wro87

drive to the car wash so the motor is warm, leave it running, spray eng degreaser on, let it work for 10 min and pressure wash it off. LEAVE THE CAR RUNNING, AND STAY AWAY FROM THE CARB AND DIST

It's a good idea to have a can of WD40 with you also. If the dist. gets wet a quick shot of WD40 and you're back in business.
