A little off topic, but close enough. I made my own for my assembly manual. Made it in excel. I did probably 50 pages a day...best time I ever spent on the computer. I use it all the time and it works great for finding the pictures I need fast. I suggest you sit down at your computer and do what I did. You could very well spend 30 bucks at a vendor for an index, but it doesn't mean it will match up to your assembly manual pages.

Thats exactly what I was intending to do , I was just checking that no- one had already done it and I was gonna re-do the work needlessly.
I didn't want to buy one for the same reason you state (differences in the way vendors copied the originals) . When I get around to it and have it completed , I will post a file for all those interested to share . At least then if it doesn't match someones version , they have not wasted any money
