Default Stumped - 68 heater control

Ok guys, this one has me stumped. I've searched here and a couple tech help sites and got nuthin..........

I have the whole dash & console out for refurbish and am trying to get the heater control bezel and lens out to clean up and repaint, can't figure out how it comes apart without taking out the wheels, strings, cables etc. Can the bezel & lens be removed or does the whole thing have to come apart????????

The unit has to come apart before the lens can come out.

If you take the screws loose from the side of the control brackets you can separate them, remove the pulley wires and pulleys, remove the wheels and let the strings hang. You will have to un-crimp the cast housing that holds the lens in place. But with the wheels off, this is not hard.

It’s not really that hard to do you just have to be careful with the pointers. They are plastic and will be brittle. If they do come loose, an old trick to put them back on the string is to use “super glue”. It will hold them as long as you don’t break all three fingers. If you glue them, you’d better make sure they are in the correct position first.

When you go back together you just stake the housing back together and you should be done.

I think I have one apart if you want me to send you some pictures before you tear in to yours. If so, email me at willcoxcustomerservice@willcoxcorvette.c om

The heater control rebuild instructions are done and now posted on the web site. Let me know what you guys think and if there is room for changes.
