Default AstroTops

Has anyone looked into these?

http://www.astrotops.com/68_82tops.html

$389

Do they fit a '69 with NO modifications?

Yes, there have been talks about those on here and on DC of benefits and drawbacks. I'll name a couple.

Positives
-looks good
-seals just as well as oem tops

Negatives
-easily scratched
-increased wind noise on highway and such

You'll see two camps of people. those who love it and those who hate it. I don't know for sure if they will fit on a 69, but I don't see why not. Below is a link to a thread about the tops.

I really like the look and feel of being able to see through as opposed to the t-tops. Fits with no mods required. Easy on and off.
I don't like the fact that when removed it doesn't fit in the back with my seat all the way back. Small gaps in the corner between the window and the top's weather stripping.

No problem. If you want to take the top off, just throw it on the side of the road!! Oh wait that would be littering....

Good idea. And if I can time it just right, if you were behind me, my top might take out that hideous growth on the back of your C3.

Ah ok, gotcha ... wasn't sure if you were trying to say you do like that it DOES fit, or don't like that it DOESN'T.

For anyone out there reading this thread though, if your vette is a 78-82 it will fit no problem. Just won't fit the earlier ones.

I purchased the Astro T-tops. Half the price of GM glass. So far no problem w/them. However if you shop around you can buy used GM glass t-tops for the same price. One draw back buying a set of glass parts used is getting the top shipped to your home w/out it breaking.
Astro has the shipping down so you know your top will not arrive cracked.

I have the one-piece astrotop on the 81 and would buy another one for the 80 but not at $389, I don't want it that bad. If someone wanted to get rid of theirs for around $200 I'd take it off their hands though.

I've tried looking on eBay, but there aren't ever any there except ones being sold by Thompson themselves - I have a feeling that they browse ebay daily looking for tops being sold and if they see one they buy it back so they can either re-sell it, or just to keep control of their brand.

Or maybe everyone likes them more than they want to admit and no one ever sells one...

If someone else made a one-piece top like theirs, but using the GM style latches, I would buy that before the Thompson in a second, even at twice the price.

i have one. or, well, a bunch of pieces of one. the biggest problem as i see it is how cheezy the rear attachments are.
BTW, never, ever drive without the front posts screwed in.

There has to be some engineer among us who could take an astro-top, rip their junk off, and attach the GM hardware.
