Default Rain-X Wipers

Anyone use the rain-x wiper blades I've been seeing advertised lately? At twice the price are they actually any better than a regular wiper blade?

I haven't used the Rain-X ones specifically, but I have used the Bosch Icon ones which look to be of a similar design. I think they are great, and worth the price. I've had a pair on my car for over a year now and they still work like they are practically new, and work much better than standard blades.

I have tried both cheap and expensive for both my Vette and my daily driver. I have come to the conclusion that if doesn't matter if you buy the expensive blades or the cheap blades...you still end up replacing them twice a year.

I apply Rain-X to the windshield, and it seems to help the rubber blade be it's best until the six month mark...but no matter what I did or what brand I still replace them bi-annually.

Heck, even my buddy who buys the BMW recommended blades for ungodly money, has to buy two sets a year.

dang, d-boy! you guys must get a lotta rain out there! my vette wipers suck so bad i have never really used them.... which is fine b/c i don't drive it in the rain

but as far as blades in general, i've had several cars for up to 3 years and have yet needed to replace blades. i have always used bosch. haven't tried to rain-x ones though, sorry.

It's not the rain that kills them, it's the summer heat and sun, and the winter cold. The rubber just deteriorates after six months of hot sun and heat, and after six months of moisture freezing and thawing plus the rigors of scraping over freezing rain on your windshield.

I'm used to it, and I don't drive my Vette in the rain either. I'm contemplating taking them off except for when it's being inspected.

I don't go for fancy wiper claims - I simply switch 'em out with cheap refills twice a year. Florida is tough on ANY wiper.

Years ago I used Rain-X windshield treatment and found it RUINED the windshield wipers in a very short time.

I just replaced the Rain-X wipers on my Tahoe and they were crap. The rubber "blade" part tore away on three of the four ends.

i feel ya'. i guess i'm just lucky. my car stays indoors, for one, and second (and probably more importantly), my climate is really ideal for cars (northern cal). i guess that's why you see SOOOO many 20,30,40 year old beaters out here driving around. that was the first thing i noticed when i moved from new york... in the east coast cars don't last that long, ESPECIALLY if you don't meticulously maintain them!

My buddy's got a pair of Rain-X wipers on his F150, and he uses Rain-X wiper fluid. Stuff works great in these salty Ohio winters.

We can send a man to the moon and get'em back, Take a picture of your house from space, but damned if we still can't design a good wiper system. Rain-X aren't any better than the cheapo's. As others have said, replace them every 4-6 months.

I sale auto parts, and refuse to sale rain-x blades. They are more expensive and less reliable than cheaper blades. I have had customer with issues with the fit of the blades on the arms (including some that broke and flew off). I will not recommend them to anyone.

Tried them once. Rain-X is a good product but their wipers were not. Just go with a good quality "standard" refill, and save yourself a few bucks.

I put them on my wifes CRV, followed the directions exactly and now I am looking at replacing the drivers side within 2 months of buying them. Will go back to buying plain wipers. Won't go down that route anymore.

What bugs me is I have found vintage cars with factory wipers on them ,but cant buy a modern set of blades that last 6 months
An old set of amco is better

Another Northern Californian here. I figure if I have to find out what the condition of my wiper blades is on either of my 69s, I've screwed up. On my DD Camaro I use plain old rubber Trico refills. I put a set of them on the car last winter and they still work fine. and since they're 19" blades for that huge windshield, bad wipers get obvious really quickly. This climate just doesn't use up the wiper blades so much. Now, sun block, that's another story.

Here in the desert the blades are in danger of baking onto the glass especially when they might not move for a couple months.

Default Rain X wiper blades

I bought a set of Rain X blades for our '05 Tahoe Z71 at Wal-Mart afew days ago. Paid $8.47 per blade. Don't know how they'll do in afew months, but they did great in our trip home from NC to IN over the mountains in some pretty heavy rain. I generally buy the Anco blades, but just decided to try these.
Our cars are all parked inside, so don't have the sun impact. The old winter blades that were on our Tahoe looked pretty tired.
Well, time to hit the garage top assemble a new storage cabinet that I bought at Target this morning. It was on sale, the savings covered the extra expense of the Rain X blades.
Temp is about 30 with afew flurries in the air.
Take care
