Anybody know if the Polk db460 fit in the dash mtg of my 78? I can't seem to get a side view of the speaker. I'm concerned whether the tweeter protrudes up past were it would interfere with the speaker grilles. Thx in advance.

I think you'll have room. If you need to use washers to space it down a bit.
these Infinity's are 49 bucks at crutchfields which is the same as polks. i have polks in my everyday car and like them. what do you like DB for a cheapo dude like me?

Okay, well before I start in with speakers selection, have you entertained the idea of installing a pair of round 6.5" speakers in the kick panels instead of smaller speakers in the dash?
The kick panels is a much better location for them anyway, and you can get a bigger speaker with more mid-bass in down there.
You will have to cut holes in your panels or buy some repro panels to cut holes in, but the installation is easy and has better benefits than mounting new dash speakers. It's easier too.
oh believe me I'm really not out to turn this 78 into a rolling theater of sound. i just want to make some minor improvements, so this one will probably do just right with replacement dash spkrs. eventually i'll replace the head unit too, but i'm trying not to get to far ahead of myself. the previous owner made some fancy cuts to accomodate an aftermarket panasonic radio. not sure what to do about that. if i do the din size radio, well then i can cut the console up some more. or i do a corvette radio with *****, but will need a face plate.
anyways, it sounds like i'm sabatoging my own thread.
so, db, it looks like it comes down to polks or infinitys, unless you have some other suggestions.
ive got a set of 6422cfp's in my room right now waiting to go in this spring. i had them and a set of 9623i's hooked up for 5 mins or so just thrown in the back storage area of the vette. i thought for the price i paid they sounded very nice. were a hell of alot better then the pioneers i had in the car before that.
thanks db. any opinions on the Infinity Reference REF6412cfp Coaxial Car Speaker? Thx again.
Ive got em, It took a shoe horn to get them in. They ride the speedo bezel due to magnet size. Passenger side is no problem. I just haven't purchased the radio I plan to install to tell you how they sound, but as DB said they are know for their highs. I now wish I would have spent the extra cash and gone with the kick panel and a larger round speaker as you will get a fuller sound. Hope the setup I plan is good enough for now as the wife wouldn't be happy with me removing the stuff I just bought to put new stuff in.

The 4x6 & some 5.25 can be mounted in the kicks properly (solidly mounted w/ a plate) w/o mods to the kick panel.
Kick panel speaker loc. (77 measured) is about 5 3/4" H X 4" W X 2 1/4" D so 4X6 fit easily & 5 1/4 can be fitted. A mounting plate is needed.
Kenwood eXcelon mask CD & 5.25 components in kick panels.
