The steering wheel in my 81 is all flaking and pieces of the leather are falling off. Has anyone bought a steering wheel from any of the vendors? Not sure if I should buy another wheel or try and have mine recovered. TIA
The steering wheel on my 80 coupe was like yours but before spending big bucks on a new or recovered one I decided to try to repair it myself, glad I did it looks like new. After removeing it from the column,I lightly sanded the cover smooth and where I had to sand it alittle deeper I then used some red body glazing and after it dried, sanded smooth and sprayed it with vinyl and fabric spray,I was amazed how good it looks and wears,I'd do it again if needed and it is NOT a bubba fix,you can't tell it from a new one!
I put the Grant black leather one on my Corvette a long time ago. It has polished slotted spokes & a shallower dish which moves it closer to the dash. Nice, direct bolt on about 13 1/2". Ideal, esp. if one is tall.
If I buy another steering wheel it will have the black powder coated spokes instead of the chrome ones. I'm a top down/t-tops off kind of guy, and I frequently blind myself with the shiny chrome ones.

That's the problem I have. My car came with a black spoke steering wheel with a beat up Oyster leather rim. Reconditioning an old wheel cost more than a new one, so I bought a new one with shiny spokes. I think I still have the original black spoke wheel and I'd like to get it re-covered.
