Thanks for all the feedback; I believe I'll be removing the bolt and using the top as it is. Now for the million dollar question, what would a garage queen black vinyl excellent condition 71 hard top be worth? Take it easy on me, I already made the purchase.

$2,000 to $4,000? That may be low, I don't know. My friend who restores Corvettes said it costs him $5,000 to have the tops restored, the one part of the car he won't do himself because the trim is so hard to remove and reinstall without damaging it.
At the 2006 Corvettes at Carlisle I passed on a removable hardtop in black vinyl in very nice but not garage queen condition for $800...if only because I was driving a '78 Vette coupe that I wouldn't be able to transport it in plus my '69 needed a body color hardtop...not a vinyl covered one.
I ended buying a near cherry condition top for $300 off Ebay that was only about forty miles away. It's the wrong color but after a year and a half it's still waiting to be painted. One day it will.
It just goes to show prices for hardtops are all over the landscape.
My '71 has the hole for the center pin, which in my case is a long bolt that goes thru the hole and has a washer and nut to hold it down. The bolt can be removed by removing the plastic window trim first, then pull the bolt out, then it can be used on a vert. with no hole.
Could a center bolt be added to a hardtop, say a '68, that did not come with one originally?
I have a '71 that has 3 holes in the deck lid. The used top I'm considering buying only has 2 bolts (probably a '68 top). Can I add the center bolt to this top, or not?
Sure you could, but why bother? It will work fine with 2 attaching points in back - especially if you have the side bolts. They really hold the top firmly in place.
Anyone have a copy of the 68-69 NCRS Judging Guide handy? I know early tops do not have the center attachment; later tops do. I don't know what year the center attachment was added.

My '68 does not have the center attachment point.
The Third Edition of the 1968-69 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide, Page 32: "...In very late 1969, a third mounting bolt is added. This is located beneath the rear window and extends into the passenger compartment on an L-shaped bracket. The bolt passes through a ferrule in the rear deck lid and is held in place by a nut..."
All '70 thru '72 Corvette convertibles that were ordered with hardtop have the center decklid attaching point. For that matter any convertibles for '73 thru '75 would also.
