labor cost
What is a fair price for doing a th400 to manual swap. Labor only. The guy who did it is a sidejobber. He does great work and wants to be fair. I`m not looking for an exact number. Just a good guess.

That all depends, how much beer drinking is in the equation?
Is he going to do shifter, pedal, linkage mods and trany install?
Fairest method, pay by the hour!

He did the pedals. He rebuilt the trans. I brought the car and parts to him and 7 weeks later I got it back. He didn`t keep very good track of time, a little here and a little there. I told him I wasn`t in a hurry.

It took me 8 hours over 3 days to convert my 78 from an automatic to a 4 speed. The father of a close friend rebuilt my super T-10 for $250 plus parts. If you gave him $50 an hour, that should be at least $600. Probably worth a lot more!
Hope this helps.

if i remember the labor manual gives about 12 hrs for a remove and replace if he did a swap from stick to auto you have add a lot of labor for crossmember

This is an auto to manual swap so the crossmember was already removable, not much there. I would ballpark $600-800 depending on how nice your used parts were and how much you rounded up for him.
