Default I am Bubba.

Well, I finally got rid of the insanely nagging drivers side window rattle in the 80. I don't remember if I mentioned it before here or not, but I've had three distinctly different rattles coming from that door, each with varying levels of annoyance. I bought the new window bumpers and other padded pieces that go inside the door from Willcox before I even took the panel off, just to make sure I would have whatever it was. Yesterday I took it all apart and identified all 3 problems:

1. Window glass movement (fixed by bumpers)
2. Door rod was hitting the inside of the door (fixed by door rod anti-rattle grommet)

Then I found number 3, the loudest and most annoying of all of the rattles - the rivet on one of the pieces of steel on the window regulator (the piece with the roller that connects to the top track) was just a tiny bit loose, allowing the piece of steel to pivot just slightly enough to touch the metal on the track and make that little TINK sound whenever it did. (Pic below for those who haven't done this themselves yet):

Since I didn't have a replacement regulator, and frankly since there was nothing wrong with it other than this noise, and since I didn't want to remove it to fiddle with it and don't have a rivet tool anyway, I bubba'd it up.

First I exposed myself to radiation to allow my hands to stretch out like Mr. Fantastic so I could reach up inside the door (I mean seriously, how did they find enough midgets to build these things?), then I took some liquid latex and a brush and coated the back of the metal piece thats movement was causing the rattle.

Dried in about an hour. Problem solved.

I'm Bubba and I approve this message.

Your not bubba your his smarter cousing that made it through High School.
Actually it was a good fix in my book. Just wait until my bubba post later today.

The regulator actually comes out pretty easily. You could do that a either tighten up the rivet or re-riviet it in the future.

Don't feel bad. There was a thread on here recently about guys cutting holes in their fan shrouds to get access to the upper control arm bolts. They didn't think they were Bubba.

I imagine that it was like some kind of elite force at GM. i mean, I see guys on tread mills, some hitting the racks, girls in the upolstry shop, reving up thier sewing machines, all while the GM theme song plays in the back ground...

Got it from Michael's Crafts (any craft store should have it), I always have some around which I use if I want to make a mold of something to cast in resin later. At one point I had even cast the little door lock ***** so I could make a set of clear ones, but I didn't really like the way they looked after they were done so I tossed em. Any type of rubber-ish material would have accomplished the same goal in this particular situation - the important thing is no more rattles!

OK, I will admit to a little Bubba fix to my door too. When I disasembled them and cleaned them, I miss placed the rod grommets and could not find them, didn't want to order or wait on them, so I went by a tire dealer and picked up several different size broke off valve stem butts from their floor and used two of them as grommets. It was 4 years ago and I haven't heard a rattle since.

a little off topic but the latest mid-america catalog has two nice color pics of the inside of the doors. one for all the lock linkage and the other for the window rails and what not.

Not so sure I would call myself Bubba; much more refined to refer to self as McGivor.
