Hey all i have yet another question.
I was wondering if anyone has ever pulled an engine when a car was still on a lift? Or should i wait untill the car is on its wheels to roll it off? I want to change the top end, and i think im falling victim to "when im at it" syndrome, because i have it in my mind to just pull the engine, and get into the lower end as well.
So the question is; is it easy to put a top end in with the engine in the car? should i bother with the bottom end? and most importantly, am i opening up a giant can of worms if i pull the engine? in other words, how much of a PITA is it for a guy with fair mechanical abalities to pull an engine, and can this guy get it back in when im done working on it?, thanks for the advice,
Steve
if you do pull it take pictures and mark hoses and such so you know how it gose back together!! if you have a half a clue it realy isnt that hard!! its just like a jig saw puzzle this piece gose here etc...
if you need to go through the bottum end depends on milage and how much powewr you plan to bolt on the top! is it a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main? etc..
Its a 2 bolt with 65K on it, but i am not planning on pushing more than 350 through it. I half thought about doing a rebuild so i dont have to worry about it for a long time. I notaced it was smoking a little when i got it. I also would take this as an oppertunity to clean up the engine bay. Mainly i am just worried about my project snowballing hahaha

This is a great thread. Im thing about doing the same thing on my 77.. maybe just the top end. Cam intake headers. or do the complete engine... So I will be watching....
Well i am discovering that even though i have been intimidated to try stuff like this because i didnt have the skills. I have discovered that i just didnt have the skills to tackle stuff like this, yet. cheers all,
Steve
