I am getting ready to take my first drive in my "new" 74 and am going to gas it up and then bring it home and start cleaning. I have some old Harley leather conditioner and don't know if something else from the auto parts store might be a better choice for the seats. Thanks.
The Harley Davidson Leather conditioner is probably really good stuff, I worked at Harley Davidson for a while, they're stuff is always the best. Years ago I had a '74 Corvette with leather. I bought some leather conditioner/cleaner from a GM dealership. White milky stuff. It didn't look all that impressive but that stuff worked great! I am about to see if they still have it for my wifes Mustang.
For OTC, Lexol would seem to be the best out there. They have a cleaner and another spray for conditioning. Great reputation.
If you want a whole lot of opinions then click on "car care discussion" and do a search for leather and you can read and read and read.
The absolute best I have ever used (next to Lexol) is the conditioner from BMW. About $25 and on a C3 you would get 6 or 8 applications. It also gives a nice leather sent and it is safe on all the other materials.
Stay away from silicons like Armor All as they harden leather.
Lexol is good stuff. If you go to a ranch or feed supply store they usually have it in pint or quart sized bottles for about half the price (or less) than an auto parts store. Get a bottle of the Lexol leather cleaner too - its pretty good. I also use mink oil on my leather seats and dash. Got that advice from a local auto upholstery shop. they told me Armor-all is a big no-no for the dashboard. They told me it dries out the dash and actually causes cracking.
