so i'm probably going to be buying a second corvette, a parts car...it was wrecked in the front, its loaded with good parts tho. its an 82, glass tops, bumper i want, overdrive transmission
anyways, the guy that owns the car lives in southern new hampshire, and i live in mass, hes about a half hour away.
he bought the car from the salvage pool and he dosent have the previous owners title or registration, but he told me if i give him the money he can get me a current registration in his name, and with that and a bill of sale i can now get a title in my name, in massachusetts.
the question is, he told me if we do that i would be able to get a clean mass title, is that true?
You should check with the Mass. RMV before putting any money down on this car. Most salvage cars should have some sort of title - I don't know how N.H. handles salvage vehicles but Mass. vehicles would have a Salvage title with them. This deal could be fine but you could also end up getting screwed. Don't take the seller's word for anything. Once he gets the money you're on your own.
Yeah, you'd need some kinda papers for it to prove its a legit car, but once you get the papers what will the car be used for, parts or are you gonna build on it ? So my question to you is do you think that you need to spend additional money for papers in your name just to part it out ? Peace,,,Moosie
i plan on using the glass tops, transmission crossmember shifter rear bumper and tail lights...the rest i plan on parting out, and if i had a title i was going to sell the shell afterward...or something along thoes lines.
i'm going to look at it again tomorrow with a buddy of mine...i'm going to tell him i need some kind of documentation...i'll tell him i want to see a registration that matches the numbers on the car.
should i try to get ahold of the people that run the salvage pool and ask them what kind of documentation the car was sold with?

Run the vin through the police and make sure it's not stolen. You're never going to drive the car so who cares about a title. As long as it's not stolen a bill of sale should be sufficient. It sounds like it's going to be in a million pieces anyway.
