Default 17 inch Torque Thrust II questions

After scouring past posts and pictures I am pondering putting 17 inch Torque Thrust II rims on my 73. I have several questions

1. What exact 17X8 rim specifications do I need, ie offset and back spacing? Better yet, what model number wheel are you all using?

2. If I put 255/50/17 tires on these rims, will I experience rubbing problems on a 1973? I have read a number of thread where guys are running 255/60/15s on stock rims and have rubbing problems. I am currently running 245/60/15s on 15X8 with no rubbing.

3. It also appears my front end has been lowered an inch. Could this cause a problem going to the 17 inch rims?

Thanks
Glenn in San Diego

The part number for the 17 x 8 TTII's with 4" backspace and 4- 3/4 bolt circle is 5057861.

Front 245/45/17, rear 255/50/17. Lowered about 1" using VBP long bolts in rear, and 1 coil cut off front springs.

Rear this size is 27" tall - no speedo issues. Front is 26" tall. 255's in front will rub. Tires are Fuzion ZRi's, which I am very happy with.

Good luck.

I'm running 255/50/17 tires on a 73. The fronts rub on the frame at full lock - not really a problem tho.

When the 255's rub, is it something you just hear and back off of, or do horrible things happen to the tire?

I had 5057861's on my 76 but do not remember the tire size.

Actually, you don't hear or feel it but you can see a shiney spot on the frame where it contacts. Not really an issue.

By the way akfox1, love that pic of your car. It been the wallpaper on my computor for quite some time. I'll be painting my Vette Lemans Blue when I get to that point.
