I'm thinking about new carpets for the 71. That would make the entire car look new! I'd appreciate an email or PM with recommendations for good fitting, correct color, good quality carpets. I'm also toying with new leather seat covers and pads as well. My carpets are not torn or worn but have faded a bit in places; I believe they are the original carpets!
almost 2 yrs ago when i was restoring my '79 i found out there was one manufacturer in alabama who supplied the aftermarket carpets to all vendors. i have forgot the name and that may no longer be the case but if it is shoot for price
Al Knoch Interiors (Texas) was highly recommended to me for my '70. I bought carpeting, backer pad, door woodgrain inserts, adhsive, and interior dye at Carlisle '07 with a 'show discount' and free shipping. I think they will be there again in April and August '08, but you should call and ask them to be sure. I am also planning on getting some leather seat rework done from them soon. Obviously you can order by phone but I'd start at the website.
Before I submitted this post, I checked their website ... they will be at the Sevierville, TN Corvette Expo, Event Center on March 28 - 29.
I haven't installed my carpeting yet ... so I can't yet vouch for the fit, but to me the carpet looks just like the original.
I agree with thrilher--there is one or two suppliers that produce the carpet for everyone. Think it was ACC (auto custom carpets). Could not get an exact match on my color so I was contacting everyone for samples--they were shipped from the same place even though I was contacting multiple dealers. Never did match it 1971 dark green--I don't care what they sent it didn't match--yes it was the original carpet--had the stickers under neath from when it was originally installed.
I used Wilcox good fit and the right color, they have a special for forum members.
I just got mine in from Wilcox a week or so ago. Looks good and quality looks good so far. Haven't installed it yet. Good price under forum special. It doesn't come with any backing on it FYI

That would be ACC (Auto Custom Carpet, or as some in the industry call "Alabama Crappy Carpet").
I got mine from ACC, but due to poor customer service never again. I would buy from Al Knoch. That is where the seats came from and I was extremely happy.
I got mine from Mid-America, they look and fit perfect
I don't have any personal experience with doing my own carpet yet but I did see a show on Speed a while back (Dream Car Garage), which is affiliated somehow with Mid-America Motorworks. Anyways, for this show, they were redoing carpet on a C2 and showed how they make their carpets (same for C3) and I was fairly impressed. Looked like they had great molds and good quality control methods in place.
Like I said, I haven't used them personally but they looked like quality pieces to me. And if I remember correctly, they were fairly priced, as well. Good luck...that job looks like a pain...taking the entire interior apart, that is. But there's nothing like fresh carpet
I have tried for years to find carpet that matched the original carpet in my '77 with no luck. ALL that I looked at did not have the original type backing or the "feel" that I was looking for.
If anyone out there has a source I'd love to hear it.
Now, I'm still kicking myself for not buying the NOS set I saw at swap 7 years ago - black, complete and $100 ..... geesh ....
I just got off the phone with Al Knoch Interiors and if I can accurately write out what was explained, this should be correct … please note the difference between carpet mill, carpet manufacturer, and carpet seller.
Al Knoch Interiors is one of a very small number of manufacturers (perhaps 2) of complete Corvette interiors, meaning carpet and other interior parts. They get their carpet from a 'Carpet Mill' and employ personnel to fabricate and install carpet and interiors. AK also sells carpet and interiors to individuals.
Corvette years 53-64 are sewn from patterns, and 65-82 are molded carpets … AK has the original patterns and molds, and offers Corvette carpet and complete interiors for years 53-82, and carpet and some interior parts for 84-04.
All of the other carpet sellers get their carpets from AK or ACC (I did not find out if ACC is a Mill also). Corvette America manufactures interiors, but not the carpet.
