I need to get the rear deck hinge assemblies removed to replace body mounting nuts. Does anyone know how to access the upper bolts on the hinge assembly. Specificaly the out-board bolts on the top of the assembly.
The car is a 69 roaster.
I just finished installing mine on a 1970 after replacing the body mount nuts and new hinge springs. We used a 1/4" rachet with a short extention, swivel socket and my wife's small hands. Thet were easy to get out, took about 2 hours to reinstall the hinge towers. Make sure you watch for spacers under the hinge towers.
Thanks for the info! Went home last night & got the darn things out! Removed the springs to make it easier.
When you re-installed, did you attach the springs first or after you installed the brackets?
Thanks for your help!
One of my springs is missing and I bought a replacement, but I have found no way to install the spring with the hinge installed. Maybe someone knows of a way and will chime in. So I would say install the hinges with the springs installed.

I removed the hinges from my 75 convertible a couple of months ago. I tried everything to get to the bolts but could only get small movement once in every ten tries with multiple type wrenches. What I finally did was drill a 3/4 hole in the rear close out panel and was then able to use a long extension to grab the bolts. It still was a tedious task. When completed the holes can be filled in or you can put a grommet in for the future.
I installed them with the springs on the hinges. Somebody makes a tool that spreads out the spring to install them and then you just pull out the tool. I've seen them, just can't remember who sells them.
