Rule of thumb: Stay away from Salvage title. Resale is very tough. You never know when you will have to sell.

Then again, tell us more about your 1989 so we can compare/contrast.

My 89 is a white, auto coupe. Pure stock with the exception of the radio. 186k miles, runs and shifts strong. New starter, battery, headlight gears, Wet Okole seat covers, brake master cylinder, and it passes smog and has a clean title.

This is my 89. It doesn't have climate control at the moment, but it drives nicely.

82CE: how does the back glass open/close??? The hinges are notorious for stretching so the alignment changes from close-to-close. Do the struts push it fully open?? how does the release operate? Cleanly??

THE SEATS: definitely not original. like has been already posted, they should be 3 tone LEATHER -- not cloth. Door panels should have a 3 tone leather stripe on them also. dont see it from your pics

Salvage title is a tough one. Exterior looks pretty good, interior could use some work but is do-able. T-tops look good but a test drive will let you hear if they rattle or not.

Engine: Original?? if it is and you want more power it will be tougher to improve, not impossible, just harder than an 80 or 81.

BOTTOM LINE: How bad do you want a 82CE ??? You'll probably get this one cheap ($6K trade value for your 89), but you'll have to sell cheap if you decide to want some other year.

If it were me, I'd do it!! A salvage title would permit me to mod it with a crate motor and other goodies without killing value. C3s have way more WOW factor than a C4 and you could always pic up another C4 pretty cheap (you're already discovering how cheap C4s can be).

Oh yeah -- remembered your in CA: Passing SMOG would be HUGE = deal breaker.

$.02 deposited

BTW, if you do this and change your mind down the road. email me, i'd be interested.

Maybe it's my old eyes, but the seats in the last pic look like cloth. What do you think? CE is leather. That steering wheel wrinkle scares the crap out of me.
Somethin smells funny with that interior.. In fact any Corvette with a smelly tree scares me. Your interior should look something like the picture below, and the accent paint, as mentioned, looks too dark. I'll bet it's not even a CE, but an 82 that received some CE parts and paint.

I'd stay away from this one as well.

Thanks everyone and I am sorry to waste eveyones time, the man backed out when I inquired for the VIN number, which is suspicious and a good thing I didnt go through with it. So now I will try to sell the 89 and hopefully buy a 73 or other C3 for the summer.

Stay away from this car! This whole thing sounds Fishy! There's plenty of CE's out there that have the real deal seats, decals, and everything else.

The VIN should start out 1G1YY0. If the sixth digit is anything but a zero it is NOT a CE.
