Default Stupid PCV question

Ok this is going to be a rely dumb question. I know the difference between a PCV system and valve cover breathers. The question is, can i get away with having valve breathers on each valve cover, instead of a pcv system?

You can, but then the vapor trapped in the crank case wont have any where to escape and eventually will accumulate there, causing some problems.

Lots of people have tried that (including me). Smokey Yunick tried some variations too with limited sucess. His designs tied the valve covers together and used a remote puke tank with breathers but that design isn't as "clean" looking as the stock PCV setup (that actualy does work). The blow-by gasses can force out oil mist vapors out the breathers and that can make a mess. It just isn't worth the effort IMHO. Give it a try if you want to but be sure to hold on to the stock valve covers and breather parts so you can switch back after your experiment.

I think that all you'll do is fill your air filter casing with a oil sludge. The oil vapor needs to be sucked back into the engine combustion chamber to be burned. I'm kinda confused as to why you'd want to do this? I mean what's the benefit?

If this is looks issue, most knowlegable car people will be more impressed with your engine when they see the correct functional equipment than a shiney looking breather.

You can have 'em both, 'ya know? I'm putting a shiney looking breather on one side (driver) and a matching shiney looking PCV on the other.

thanks, i am in the middle of my engine rebuild, unfortunately i have been delayed, someone hit and run me in some POS Aztec, and my back is messed up, cant get off the couch. It sucks. so i am taking this time to plan on what i need to do next, and the subject of the pcv crossed my mind. Hopefully i will have everything planned out, and studied up, so my build goes quick.
