You can find small tank(25-35 gallon) 120V belt driven units for slightly more. This is what would be ideal since you do not have 220V in the garage. They are quiet and should last a lifetime.
That being said I still only have a direct drive oilless that has been with me for 10 years and is finally on its last legs. This unit sandblasted my frame and all the suspension parts and painted everything on the car. Noisier than hell but it did the job.
r. I beleive it is a 25 gal and in the same price range with a heavy duty tank. I don't recall the brand just the color is black.
I have this model (or something really close to it). It's a 30 gal belt drive compressor that puts out a bit more than 5 cfm at 90 psi and runs on 110V. I've been really happy with it, but it wouldn't be enough for serious body sanding, paint spraying or a media blasting cabinet. I have access to a bead blaster at work, so that wasn't a big deal and any painting I need will be farmed out. The compressor is nice and quiet and works very well for general work, impact wrenches, air chisels, etc.
