Default Chambered exhaust ???

Does anyone on here run a chambered exhaust with headers? How is performance, sound, noise level? I'm building a 383 for my '72 and am thinking about the chambered setup they have in Mid America for my car.The cost looks similar to what I'd pay to just put flowmasters on existing pipe.

Yes --- '66 coupe with 383 stroker, headers, and undercar chambered exhaust system. I had an undercar system with mufflers, don't know what kind, they came with car, until recently. I don't notice any change in performance with the chambered system and, compared to the system I had, it seems a little quieter. Not quiet by any means, it just may be that the pitch or frequency is different. It does sound good. It sounds like the factory sidepipes, but better in my mind because the noise is in the back and not next to your ear.

I had read bad things about the Mid-America system on here, problems with fitment. I bought my system off E-bay, I believe the seller is HRvette or something like that, and is always advertising systems on there. I had no problems dealing with him, it was an easy transaction. The system fit just fine, no modifications needed.

Have the Mid America sytem. It is a nice sound for loud. I think it restricts a little, but I have no scientific proof. Just my butt dyno.

My ZZ4 with Hooker super comps have 3 chambered Flowmasters on a stainless steel exhaust. Performance is great and the sound level is something I can live with on long trips (or short ones ). When I go WOT I get all the correct sounds with all of the attention... some neighbors have no sense of humor.

I'm not running a chambered exhaust on our C-2....but I am running Flowmaster Race Series with a full exhaust.....not too loud inside the car.....May change the mufflers on our 72....has turbo mufflers now....I have a short video clip of the 65 at idle on my web page.....

I have had a Mid America chambered exhaust system on my header equipped mild 350 for quite a few years now. Yes it is loud, but over the years I have always got only positive comments. As far as performance, I am more than satisfied with how the car goes. The car will still put you back in the seat when you get on it.

Thanks for the replies. I swear I didn't know so many people made the chambered exhaust either. I googled it and there are alot of manufacturers out there. The only concern I have about side exhaust is the noise right in my ear. I like loud, but only to a point!

A friend of mine has Dynomax headers with chambered exhaust. His pipes are from Allen's Stainless Exhaust. Another friend of his has headers and chambered exhaust from another vendor. They both have the same number of chambers and both systems look the same. But the BIG difference is that the first guy's pipes have 1500 holes and the other guy has only 850. The guy who has the 850 holes, his system is very loud while the guy with the 1500 holes, his system is what I would call just right. He has a vert and while just driving down the road you can carry on a conversation or hear the radio but when he steps on it.......it sounds GREAT!! So if you go with chambered the big question to ask is just how many holes does the system have.

I have a chambered exhaust (Allens exhaust) on my 75. It sounds great at idle and is just the right loudness of getting attention. As for performance, it was an upgrade because i had the stock 2-1-2 system on it with 2 inch pipes...

I personally dont like the sound of chambered systems.

I've heard they are restrictive as well...

Best cheap improvement I ever installed. As far as being restrictive, I have never had it on a Dyno either before or after and they were installed at the same time as other mods. My car goes the speed limit anyplace in the USA and quickly I might add and also I personally like the sound. To each their own. When I bought mine they were only sold for cars with
stock manifolds. When I told Mid Am. I had headers they sent me 2 sections of 4 foot straight pipe to have bent and attached to collector.
They also cut the price for me as at the time I was spending a bundle on other parts. They cost me 190 bucks delivered, but that was 10 years ago
