Default Help with manufacture date

For registration reasons here in Australia, I need to know exactly what day my car was manufactured, it is a 79 model but was built somewhere around Sep 78, is there a way to tell the exact date of manufacture from a VIN or other stamped number? Someone told me once one of the numbers on the trim plate would tell you. Any idea's anyone????

Dennis.

This is approximate only, I need to prove date of manufacture to the registration people. Any one know how to decode the trim tag numbers?

In the upper right hand corner, after the word Chevrolet, will be a letter followed by two digits. The letter represents the sequential month of manufacture, the two digits the day of the month.

Production for the 1979 model year started in August 1978, so
A= August 1978
B= September 1978
and so on until
N= September 1979

A trim tag code of L26 would therefore equate to July 26 1979.

Hope this helps.
