Default Wheel and Tire Question

Will changing the size of the wheel and tire from the stock slotted aluminums to an 18" wheel and say a 45 aspect ratio tire change the accuracy of the speedometer? I imagine it would.

Anybody?

You need the same tire dia. or height & stock is about 27".
If using 255/60/15 27" then 255/50VR17 27" would not change the speedo.

It is the overall height of rim and tire. If that changes from 27" speedo will change. If you go from 27" to 26" your speedo might change 1 or 2 mph. Easy way to check is if you have or no someone with a portable GPS navigation unit. Go to the screen that gives you mph and check that against your speedo.

I think you can google this topic and get a site that will predict your MPH. You just need to input the tire/wheel data. Can't recall the site.

It shouldn't...

A P255/45R18 is approx. 27.1 and so is a P255/60R15. The speedometer doesn't know what size your rim is, it just knows how fast they are turning.

I want to run P285/45/18 out back, so according to the calculator, it will be pretty far off. When the speedometer says 60mph, I'll acutally be doing 65.8

well.... it's not that bad, as long as you recognize that fact when you're driving. my speedo is WAY off. i mean, like, 10mph. i didn't realize it until i was driving in tandem with my wife and i asked her how fast she was going (according to HER speedo, which i'm pretty sure was accurate). either way, i'm not much of a speed demon these days, especially in that car (already had my license suspended and a lovely time in traffic school). so for me it's no biggie.

Try P285/40/18, the 255/45/18 are a hair bigger. the difference is only like to 2 rotations per mile.
