Default ??? Dash & Gauge Lights

I have my dash apart right now. I got all new bulbs to put in dash & gauge cluster. Have switch out too. Is there a way to check the operation of all lights without putting dash & center console back in?

I'm an idiot around electricity when there are more than 2 wires.

You are not an idiot. Just turn key on - make sure grounds are connected.

Most all of the wires going to the bulbs are grey. Which wire would be the ground. I am thinking maybe black?

Sorry, I don't have wiring book and I have an unindexed copy of my Assembly Manual. I gotta send that thing thru my scanner and index it.

The info starts on page 406 in the AIM - but that might not help you that much. It's been many years since I did the same thing so I cannot give you a correct answer. Sorry, others will help. PS What I do remember is that the center bezel is the ground for the wiper assembly - so if the top of that bezel is broken you may have to run a ground wire to the bottom.

The panel on the back it has metal around the bulb socket that is your negative. now look where the out side of the printed circut board has another connection running close to the bulb socket but looks inclosed that should be your positive .now find a 12 battery back up battery of of a computer or just use a charger of some type put two alligator clips on the wires put your bulbs in and they should light just like the voltage was coming right from the switch if your not sure on your hook up dont put any bulbs in, hook up your voltage to the board and get a reading (voltage )from the socket if its backwards switch the alligator clips try to get the clips with the Insulators it will keep stuff from shorting.Test your bulbs before puting in the board.to check for brightness. hope this helps.
