I'm 6'2 and my teenage boy grew to 6'6 over winter. Is there a simple solution to 'dropping the seats down' ? I don't really want to change out the seats to something other than stock.
Does anyone know if the glass T-tops would give us more headroom? and how much? ( kind of a costly way of gaining like 1/4 " )
I used to own a '79 with glass tops - but that was back in '83 and I was paying more attention to the girlfriend / future wife than important stuff like this .
Someone rearended me last year ( not that hard either) and my head hit the roof so hard I thought someone had dropped an anvil on my head. My wife says 'that expains alot"
i know the Astro-Top gives more headroom, although i like mine ok alot of people have complained they put theirs up for sale right after they tried to install it.I am only 5'11" so i can't say if it would work well for you
The glass one's do give a little more headroom. You might want to look at the "Sport top" at Ecklers. It's a canvas top. That's the most headroom you can get and still have a top. I think it's around $300.
Im 6'2'' and in my 74 Ive got PLENTY of room with the liner in, I can sit up straight too and have about an inch or 2, Ive never had a problem with it, but Id try removing the liner for a whyle, its better than dropping 800+ bucks for a new pair of T-tops
Anyone out there tried the canvas 'Sport Top" by Fox Enterprise ?
It doesnt sound like a bad deal. Plus next time I get rear ended my head won't hurt as much!
I simply removed the liners from my T-tops and painted them to match the interior. I got a few inches of extra room.
You could also consider removing the seat tracks from the seats and bolting the seats directly to the floor for another inch or so.
If you are both that tall I doubt you would ever need to slide the seat forward.
Yeah yer right. We've never moved the seats anywhere except all the way back. I like your idea about removing the liners and painting them. & I can turn around and mount them back in if I ever sell.
Did you notice any extra road noise once they are removed?
I'm 6'5 and I too faced the head room problem in my 82, bought a pair of glass tops and now have well over 2 inches of head room. Glass tops are not the cheapest way, taking the headliner out of the fiberglass ones will also give you clearence and bolting the seats directly to the floor(with out tracks) as Durango Boy mentioned above. These options will give you the clearence you need, good-luck.
