My mirror flops around on the door. Everything is new, the mirror, mounting bracket, gasket and screw.
Looking at the setup it appears the tapered seat of the screw hits the bracket and pulls the mirror against the bracket holding it in place. My screw goes through the bracket without the tapered seat hitting the bracket.
Is it safe to assume the hole is too big for my bolt?
I had the same problem a long time ago. The threaded portion of the tapered screw is too long. The threads bottom out before the tapered portion pulls the mirror tight to the door bracket. I just ground the end of the treads down.

Jim,
I'll look into the thread depth. If we take a step back, does the tapered seat of the screw supposed seat against the bracket which in turn pulls the mirror against the bracket? If thats true, and I believe it is, I have a bad bracket as my screw goes all the way through the bracket without the tapered seat hitting anything!!!
