My 82 has a four spoke steering wheel with the inscription Zora Arkus Duntov. I've seen references to these, but have not been able to determine if it was an option or an aftermarket item. Anyone know the history on these?
I believe that's after market. Another member here, Sam, just got one for Christmas last year from his parents and it looks great. I have a four spoke very similar in design, but mine is a simple brushed finish and black leather wrapping.
It is aftermarket. They used to be in the catalogs but that was years ago. They were good quality as I remember.
-Mark.
Edit - They were listed in Eckler's Catalog for the first time in 1981 @ $109.95 and came in black, red or tan with either black or polished spokes. A stock replacement wheel was only $79.95 so the Duntov signature wheel was a little bit more expensive at that time.

DB . Is the 4 spoke wheel you have similar to this one .I have never researched it but was told it was an option. I had a '79 with a factory 4 spoke but it was totally padded.

No actually I have never seen one like that. Here is mine, and Sam's is just a polished version with that signature etched into it.
The only factory wheels were three-spoke (except for the Vega nightmare used on all '76s and later fixed-column cars), to the best of my knowledge. The four-spokes (either solid or with the early-style split spokes) are aftermarket. If another factory 4-spoke Corvette wheel existed in the C3 years, I can't remember seeing a picture of it.
I'm amazed at how much that Duntov wheel cost in '81. I think my parents paid about that much for it, unused, last year. I think the basic wheel is still in production (it might be a Grant), but the signature edition is long gone.
I like the feel of the four-spoke aftermarket wheel much better than my 77 original.

Hey Don, Is that a parts car?.
I could use a wiring harness. Let me know. Thanks a lot buddy..
That looks like the Olds Cutlass "Sport" wheel, used from '68 to '72 and possibly later. It was an option.
I think Buick may have used it too. Of course, the horn button is different.
