Hey guys, I bought a Cadence 6004 amp for my '80. It's pretty big. I was looking at mounting options. It looks a little bit to be screwing directly into the back compartment of the car. I was thinking of just laying it flat. Can any of you guys out there with '80 to '82's shed some light on how you installed your amps? I did some searching and didn't see too much.
I have a 1000 watt Kenwood that runs my subbs and it is mounted on a custom plate in the jack compartment looks good and it is doesnt get in the way of my tops! PM me if you would like some pics. ( since i can not figure out out to get them out of my picture file and onto the forum)
From: 90% of all Fords are still on the road.....the other 10% actually made it home!
Without knowing the dimensions of it, a good location might be difficult to suggest. When you say "pretty big", I assume you're talkin about something comparible to mine which is 12" x 29" x 2". (Which is pretty big) I'll be mounting mine against the rear wall.
I'd mount it to the rear so you can still put your t-tops in without damaging them. I did crawl underneath the car and placed speed clips on the back of the mounting screws. Just dont use a real long bit if drilling, gas tank is about 2 inches behind back wall.

My amp is about the size of both of yours put together!
Thanks for the heads up on the gas tank.
I think it's definitely too big to put in the jack tray.
DB, did you make a mounting bracket or is it just screwed into the back wall? What kind of hardware did you use?
I made a board, sized the same as the back wall, covered it in black carpet, and I bolted it to the back wall with six bolts. Four would have done, but I was originally planning two amps.
I removed my spare tire carrier a long time ago, but there is room to get your hand up there to hold a nut with a wrench while someone else tights the bolts on the inside.
The board is 3/4" thick, so I can jusr screw the amp to the board.

That sounds like what I need to do. I'll take a look at seeing what that will take.
